Privacy Policy
The short version
pdf.scanner scans, edits and saves documents entirely on your phone. It has no user accounts, no sign-in and no server of ours behind it. Your scans, PDFs and recognised text never leave your device unless you choose to share or export them yourself.
1.Who this policy covers
This policy explains how the pdf.scanner Android app handles information. It applies only to this app. It does not apply to other apps, websites or services you may open from within it.
The app is published on Google Play by Wifipasswordshow ("we", "us"). If you have questions about anything here, contact details are in section 13.
2.Information we collect
We do not collect any personal information. Specifically, the app does not ask for or gather:
- your name, email address or phone number
- account credentials — there is no account and no sign-in
- your location
- your contacts, call logs or messages
- advertising identifiers or device identifiers for tracking
- analytics about how you use the app
We operate no servers that receive your data, so there is no copy of your documents or activity held by us at any time.
3.What the app handles on your device
To do its job, the app works with the following on your phone only:

These files are kept in the app's private storage area, which other apps on your phone cannot read, or in a folder you pick yourself when you export something.
4.Permissions and why they are needed
Camera
Used to photograph the pages you want to scan. The camera is optional — the app installs and runs on devices without one, and you can work entirely with images already on your phone. Captured pages go straight into the document you are building. Nothing is uploaded.
Biometrics
Requested only so you can lock the app with your fingerprint or face. Android performs the check itself and tells the app nothing more than whether it succeeded. The app never receives, sees or stores your fingerprint or face data, and this data never leaves your device's secure hardware.
App lock is optional. If you do not turn it on, this permission is never used.
Photos and files
The app does not request broad access to your photo library or device storage. When you import a picture or a PDF, Android's own picker opens and hands the app only the specific file you selected. It cannot browse anything you did not choose.
5.Text recognition (OCR)
When you extract text from a scan, the app uses Google's ML Kit text recognition, which runs on your device. The page image and the resulting text are processed locally and are not sent to Google or to us for recognition.
The recognition model itself is supplied by Google Play services, and Google Play services may download or update that model over the internet. That download contains no part of your documents. On devices that support it, page capture may also run inside Google Play services' built-in document scanner; on other devices the app falls back to your normal camera app.
Google Play services is governed by Google's own privacy policy, at policies.google.com/privacy.
6.Sharing and exporting
Nothing is shared automatically. When you tap share, print or export, the app passes that one file to the app you choose — for example your email client, a messaging app or a cloud drive — using a temporary, single-file permission that Android withdraws afterwards.
Once a file reaches another app, that app's own privacy policy governs it. We have no control or visibility over what happens to it from that point.
7.Storage, retention and deletion
Your documents stay on your phone for as long as you keep them. We set no retention period because we hold nothing.
- Deleting a document inside the app removes it from the app's storage.
- Clearing the app's data from Android Settings removes all documents and settings held by the app.
- Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored privately.
- Files you exported elsewhere — to Downloads, a cloud drive, a chat — are not affected and must be deleted there by you.
Because we never receive your data, there is no account to close and no data for us to delete on your behalf. You can still write to us with any question about this.
8.Backups
Automatic Android backup is switched off for this app. Your scans and app settings are not copied into Google Drive backups and are not carried across by device-to-device transfer. If you change phones, move your exported files yourself.
9.Security
Documents are held in the app's private sandbox, which the Android operating system keeps separate from other apps. You can add a biometric or device-credential lock on top of that. Since documents are never transmitted to us, there is no transfer or server storage to secure.
No system is perfectly secure. Physical access to an unlocked phone, or a device that has been rooted or modified, can expose files that Android would otherwise protect, and that is outside our control.
10.Third parties
The app uses Google Play services for text recognition and, on supported devices, document capture, as described in section 5. We do not include advertising networks, analytics providers, crash reporting services or any other third-party SDK that collects data about you.
The app is distributed through Google Play, and Google collects information about installs and purchases under its own terms, independently of this app.
11.Children
The app is a general-purpose document tool and is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children. If you believe a child has somehow provided us personal information, contact us and we will act on it.
12.Your rights
Data protection laws — including the EU and UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act, and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 — give you rights to access, correct, delete and port your personal data, and to object to its processing.
These rights apply to data a company holds about you. We hold none: everything the app produces stays in your hands on your own device, where you can view, edit, export or delete it at any time. We do not sell or share personal information, because we have none to sell or share. If you want to exercise a right or ask how your data is handled, write to us using the details below.

14.Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects how information is handled, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date at the top will change. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's Play Store listing. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
